Kempire Daily is not just a place for entertainment, music and lifestyle news but is also home to weekly editorials. This week my chosen editorial topic is Chris Brown, a 24 year old male artist who is without a shadow of doubt one of the most discussed R&B acts of our generation.

However, while other blogs and entertainment websites concern themselves with the negative aspects of Brown’s life (which more times than often appears to have been fabricated), Kempire Daily will explore the other side of Chris Brown – a side that is rarely portrayed in the media for fear of losing website traffic and hits. What is that other side you ask? Chris Brown is an active philanthropist.

‘Symphonic love’: two words that appear on Chris Brown’s chest as a tattoo. While some see the tattoo as being an ode to the love of Brown’s life (music), the tattoo is actually the name of Chris Brown’s own charity, which he officially launched late 2012 at the age of 23. Founded years before its official media launch, ‘Symphonic Love’ works with charities close to Brown’s heart including the Jenesse Center (a domestic violence intervention center), Break the Cycle (a program that empowers youth to end the cycle of domestic violence), Best Buddies, APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles) and more and aims to create art programs for today’s youth in order to encourage respect and promote kindness in the community.

The seeds for ‘Symphonic Love’ appear to have been sown when Brown was just a teenager. Aged just 17 and coming off the back of his “Up Close and Personal” tour, Brown donated over $50,000 of the tour’s gross to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Since then Chris Brown has donated financial/physical assistance to some of his chosen charities after each of his US tours.

Art is a form of expression, but for Chris Brown art can also be used to raise funds for charitable organizations. In March of this year Brown teamed up with artist Romero Britto in Miami to create a graffiti mural for Best Buddies. Encouraging disabled children at Best Buddies to create portraits, Brown then joined in on the activities and sold the artwork – with all proceeds going to the aforementioned charity. This is just one of the many events organized by Brown to raise funds for this charitable organization.

There will be those among us reading this and commenting: “this is fine, but how has he shown any form of redemption since 2009″? That answer lies in his work with the Jenesse Center. Before his work with this domestic violence program came to prominence, Brown had been working with the center outside of the media glare. Off camera, Brown actively visited the children at the center where he helped them to get ready for school and most recently during the center’s annual “Back To School Fall Festival,” Brown donated school supplies and resources.

One of the Brown’s recent acts of kindness is truly the inspiration behind the creation of this editorial. Mohamed Elherazy, a disabled fan of Brown’s who communicates via a computerized voice synthesizer listed Brown as his biggest inspiration in life in an open letter (read here). Before his concert at Hot 97′s Summer Jam, Brown invited Elherazy and his family backstage and as the video below shows, both were keen on meeting each other.

The purpose of this editorial is certainly not to brag about Chris Brown’s charitable activities, but more to highlight the positive aspects of Brown’s life which are often overshadowed by negative media headlines and gossip. Here is a 24 year old man trying to make a difference in both his own life and in others by inspiring change and positivity. How can that be ignored?
